The most polluted city of India
IF you are thinking of that ,our capital New Delhi is the most polluted city of the country , then you are totally wrong.Our capital is in the list of most polluted city but not topped. Your eagerness will come to end here,
It is not surprising if a city from Bihar topping this chart.But wait this is not Patna, but it is unofficial capital of north Bihar,Muzaffarpur.It topped the chart in terms of level of air pollution as the AQI(air quality index) measured at 445. As per the guidelines of CPCB,AQI above 400 is categorized a severe which can affect healthy people and seriously impact those with existing diseases.On the second it is the city from Rajsthan,where the AQI stood 4, while capital of Bihar,Patna is third highest withAQI 423. Delhi,on the other hand,recorded an AQI of 373 on Wednesday which was very poor category.Gaya,another impotant city from north Bihar witnessed very poor with AQI 323.
The AQI is an assessment of the air quantity taking into account eight pollutants -PM2.5 (particulate matter less than 10 micron),nitrogen oxides,sulphur dioxide,ozone,carbon monoxide,ammonia and lead.
PM2.5 has been found to be the highest contributor in the AQI.The main sources of PM2.5,which can reach the lung and cause damage to the respiratory system,has been found to be road dust,construction activities a vehicular emission.;
Bihar can be considered to be most polluted state of country
For any state ,which is least educated,very poor,least developed earned another tag of most polluted ,what can happen worse than this,I am saying it of because 3 out of 4 its major cities making in the list.Obviously, question arises what the government is doing ?
As per an action plan to tackle air pollution release4d by Bihar State Pollution Control Board in May,road dust,vehicular emission,domestic fuel burning ,construction activities ,open waste burning and industrial emissions have been identified as the major source of the air pollution in the state.
Weather experts attributed meteorological factors ,including thermal inversion and high level of humidity ,as the source behindsurge in the AQI .'Atmosphreric inversions traps pollutants close to the ground leading to haze , which is being witnessed lately.
